Rahat Saini in traditional dress with flowers - by Divya Nanray

Rahat Saini
RAH-hut • SAY-nee

actor, storyteller, funny person

My love for telling stories began in the home, with loud laughter shared over cups of hot chai and rusks. My mom (who is a superstar in her own right) often tells the story of me as a baby, not yet old enough to speak full words but singing a Bollywood song while she changed my diapers — I suppose an early hint to my love for entertainment.

Being able to tell a good story is a gift I inherited from my family– it’s a power and privilege I do not take lightly. Across cultures, languages, and time, stories connect us all. Stories remind us of our shared humanity. If you have ever spoken to my mom, you’ll also know that stories can be netlike, interwoven with so many others. My own story, for example, links to those that came before me. So many incredible BIPOC women have chiseled away for years, with unflinching resilience, to make it possible for me to have a path. I feel honoured to be a part of this fabric of storytellers and performers who continue to reshape the landscape of modern media. I feel grateful to be able to bring my unique perspective, voice, and lived experience to every role and every room–optimistically, joyously connected to my purpose.

To be seen, to be heard, to take up space — I’m just getting started.
